KJ and The Conspirators

by jprentice on August 20, 2009

I’ve been sitting on this post for TOO long. On June 3rd, my good friend Kjerstin (KJ, a co-worker from my Applied Minds days) invited me to shoot her jazz gig at the Pasadena Jazz Institute. It was a TON of fun! For one thing, I’ve never photographed a live band before. And second of all, my wife and I had free tickets and were allowed to sit up front like VIP’s. A night on the town without the kid! Pretty swank to say the least.

The shoot was pretty challenging. I ended up figuring out that I had to sacrifice ISO for shutter speed. Shooting too slow resulted in too much blur from the band. During the editing phase I found it a challenge to deal with white balance since the lighting was always shifting. Enough of that, here’s some pics and a link to the whole series: KJ and The Conspirators Oh, and they are seriously good. If you have a chance, go see them!

** Update: Pasadena Rose Magazine recently did an article of Kjerstin and used some of these images. The article can be found here: Kjerstin Williams the Robotics Engineering Jazz Singer. This is the first magazine to use my work!
