Becker baptism

Do you remember Windows NT? Some of you probably not, the rest of you are now mad at me for reminding you of the inflexible OS that didn’t support USB (even when that “toy” called Linux did). The reason I mention it is because I got to know Dan Becker because of his answer to an NT question in an interview. He was the only one we interviewed that got it right. Click to continue →

Jarrod’s Baptism

by jprentice on September 30, 2008

On Sunday our good friends, Christy and Bruce, invited us to their son’s baptism (and they also put me to work). I’ve seen a lot of baptisms, Jarrod was one of the few kids not to cry, and he’s the only kid I know of to lustfully look back at the water with that look in his eye like “It’s hot today, I want that!” The whole thing was nice and I got some nice pictures. Bruce and Christy were able to get me right in the front row, so I didn’t even have to leave the pew (I fully embraced the lazy photographer in me). I used my trusty 50mm/1.8 lens at 1/80 and a fairly high iso (500) to get the shots without a flash, which was a requirement of the gig. That’s a higher iso than I’m typically comfortable with using, but I’m happy with the results, it wasn’t too grainy. When shots are properly exposed, the grain isn’t too terrible at that high of an iso.

After the ceremony, we went back to their place with some of their friends to eat lunch (this is my 2nd gig that involved food, I approve!) After lunch, Bruce and I went out into the courtyard by their apartment and took some more pictures of Jarrod. Based on some time constraints (my daughter needed to take a nap), I decided to keep it simple and not use any fancy equipment. We just plopped Jarrod on the ground and I took shots while Bruce and Bruce’s father did an admirable job getting sleepy little Jarrod to smile.
