A few weeks ago I was invited to shoot the birthday party of my goddaughter, Cristina. She was turning four and having a dress up tea party. The girls were all dressed in brightly colored dresses and Cristina’s Mom, Valentina, supplied them with wings to complete the costumes.

I did a family portrait of our friends Mack and Valentina, and their two kids the other night. The two kids are also my and Marie’s God-Kids. It was a quick shoot in my “backyard” (aka our driveway) but considering the proximity of Christmas and other scheduling factors, I was happy with the results. I used an sb-900 pointed at them with a slight warming filter on it, and then a vivitar 285 out of frame to the right and behind the family, but pointed at them and the vine covered wall (this is to help visually separate them from the wall).
We celebrated Halloween in Alhambra with my Wife’s brother’s family and some old friends of ours. Between all of us there were five kids running around. I was sick all day, so I was mostly coherent and some of the kids might argue that I was in a bad mood. Despite that, I set up my gear and the kids were kind enough to let me take some pictures.

I did a photoshoot over the weekend with my “godkids”, Charles and Cristina. We went to a local park in Pasadena. I think Mack and Valentina (their parents) would agree that it was challenging. But the results were decent, considering that 20 minutes into the shoot Charles decided that “run away from the camera” is the COOLEST game ever! Below are some examples, click any of them to go to the full gallery. We didn’t do anything fancy. We didn’t use any flashes or reflectors. Just the camera and a tiny bit of post-processing to correct colors and improve detail in shadows.
