Our Independence Day Party

Independence Day Party at the Garcia's
Los Angeles is typically NOT the place you go if you intend to (legally) celebrate Independence Day with anything that even remotely resembles a firework. However, the city of Alhambra is one of the few cities in the county that matches are legal. As far as I can tell, as long as your firework isn’t being launched into the air, you’re safe!

Fireworks

by jprentice on July 7, 2009

On July 4th we had a little bbq at my parents house. We sat around in the backyard talking and watching Phoebe play in a tub of water. As it got dark we moved to the front yard. Down the street/hill is Crescenta Valley High School. The high school does a fireworks display every year, which is visible from my parent’s front yard. It’s awesome! No staking claims with blankets and ice chests and no drunk guys standing in front of my camera.

Speaking of cameras, and to get to the point of this post, I took some fireworks pictures. This is probably the third time I’ve tried shooting fireworks. This time around, I wasn’t in the mood to babysit the camera. I wanted to sit with my Wife and daughter, or help my Dad with his camera ;-) So to meet my goal of actually WATCHING the fireworks, the first thing I did was put the camera up on my tripod. Second, I set the camera to f/11, 4 second shutter speed, and manual focus. Third, my camera has a built in interval timer. I set it to fire every 5 seconds, hit GO, then walked away. Below are some of the shots I captured. Here’s a link to the whole set (including some family pics) – July 4th Pictures
