Strobist Boot Camp II: TheFullPint.com

by jprentice on June 21, 2009

About a week ago David Hobby at strobist.com announced Strobist Boot Camp II, and the first assignment: mug shots Head shots.

I’ve never been involved with one of these strobist.com activities, so I decided to participate this time. The assignment called for us to do a head shot of someone affected by the down economy and hopefully a shot related to their field of work or interests. In other words, a picture they can use. The first person that came to my mind was my good friend Daniel Becker. I know him from my IT career. He’s very passionate about beer and is co-founder of the best beer blog ever:The Full Pint. Due to a recent layoff from his IT position, he’s been forced to do blogging full time. I’m hoping the stars align properly to allow him to continue doing the blogging full time. He certainly doesn’t deserve less. He’s a great guy and I’m very proud of him.

Okay, enough of the mushy background stuff. Below is his picture. My only concern with regard to the assignment is that it called for a head shot. I, uh, kind of left out a large percentage of his head. Daniel’s happiest behind his beer and it took a lot of arm twisting to convince him to even do this. Besides that, my shot has more implied mugs and heads than any I’ve seen! So that’s my defense, as weak as it may seem. It might disqualify me from any prizes in the strobist.com contest, but I’ll accept that if it’s my fate. I like the picture and it’s appropriate for Daniel and his blog.

And in closing, if you even kind of like beer, go to The Full Pint, sign up for the RSS/twitter/facebook/whatever-feed-is-appropriate-for-you and enjoy! It will make you a better person, I’m sure of it!
