A bird moved into our house about the same time we did. She (I assume it was a she) spent a ton of time working on the above nest. We (excluding our cat) are good people and left her alone. A few weeks after the nest was completed, we stopped seeing her. We didn’t think too much of it until last weekend when I decided to take down the vacant nest. To my surprise… Click to continue →

In July I did the World Wide Photo Walk in Pasadena, CA with my Dad. You can see my pictures here: Pasadena Photo Walk. Frankly, I wasn’t pleased with the shots I got, or with how the walk was led…or not led as was the case in our walk. The day started too late (an hour after the golden hour), the leader didn’t lead, and the meeting place was closed. Don’t get me wrong, I had a good time, met some new people and learned some new things. I guess I just had higher hopes for the day.
So a couple of friends and I decided to do the Photo Walk again. But this time we would do it earlier when the light was not so terrifying. Oddly enough, my negative feelings of the original photo walk had an appropriate karmic response. The day of our photo walk, take two, was super cloudy. The entire time. Oh well. I still had a lot of fun! I’m not done editing the images, but below is an HDR attempt that I’m pleased with. It’s Pasadena’s City Hall.
As I’ve discussed, here and here, I’m participating in the Strobist.com Boot Camp.
The latest assignment is a room shoot. I’m not good with this kind of photography, and I don’t feel like I have the proper equipment either (i.e. super wide lens and/or a giant house). I came REALLY close to just skipping this one. But it’s important to me that I do all the assignments. So here it is! Phoebe’s bedroom:
**EDIT** I completely forgot to mention that I used my new $15 tripod! It was awesome.
Phoebe loves apple juice, her dinosaur, and Wow Wow Wubbzy! When she has any one of those things she typically ignores me. When she has all three, I can set up some lights and take pictures of her with no consequence ![]()
In this case, I’m using two LP120‘s. One is to her left shooting through an umbrella, triggered via pocketwizard. The second is on her right with a full CTO gel, triggered optically. Handheld and shot at a low shutter speed to let some day light burn in through the curtains.
I’ve kinda fallen off the wagon with the blog posting. Which is bad. The good news is that’s because I’ve been busy! I’ve got lots of projects to talk about, and some new ones in the works. So for now, here’s a picture of a bee! I took it one day in my front yard while hanging out with my daughter. She finds them fascinating. I’m still trying to convince her that flailing her arms around them is not a good idea. Hopefully she learns this lesson the easy way.
